German Wirehaired Pointer

Developed in the 19th century, the German Wirehaired Pointer (GWP) is one of three breeds of German Pointers – alongside the German Shorthaired and Longhaired varieties. This tenacious hunting dog was bred to accompany their owners as they searched for birds and other prey during harsh weather conditions. The unique wire-like coat provides protection against inclement weather when out on hunts.

The German Wirehaired Pointer is the product of a skillful combination of three breeds: the Pointer, Foxhound, and Standard Poodle. This wire-coated breed has been designed to excel in both pointing and retrieving on land or water. With its distinctive coat protecting him from harsh terrains, this medium-sized hunter will bring home all types of feathered and furred game! As an intelligent dog with high levels of energy needs more than just any owner – he needs someone who can match his activity level as well as intellect.

German Wirehaired Pointers are just like any other pup in that they get easily bored when left alone without stimulation or companionship. This can lead to them being destructive and noisy, but with the right home environment full of love and attention, these pups will flourish! A house surrounded by nature such as a suburban or rural area with lots of space for running around is perfect for GWPs, providing them with plenty of exercise and training opportunities.

The German Wirehaired Pointer has a coat that is easily groomed and sheds minimally throughout the year. Furthermore, it’s water-resistant & dries quickly after getting wet. When selecting a puppy, bear in mind that those with coats of long length, softness or wooly texture will require extra grooming to avoid knots and tangles. The GWP’s ultimate wish is to relish time playing with their humans during the day & rest their head on someone’s feet at night – they adore human companionship! This breed must live indoors since it needs people around constantly for its affectionate nature.
