American Cocker Spaniel

Not long ago, the American and English Cocker Spaniels were thought to be of one breed. Nevertheless, they had already diverged significantly over a century prior- the former being much smaller and lighter in weight than its ancestor. As such, it was bred from then with exhibition shows and family life at heart; thus losing many of its original hunting capabilities despite still carrying the title “sporting” within America’s dog circles.

Generally speaking, American Cockers are warm-hearted and docile companions; however, it is unfortunately true that during the 1900s they fell victim to their own fame. As a result of careless breeding practices, this breed has developed several health and behavioral difficulties that remain pervasive today.

The dashing Cocker Spaniel is one of the most attractive breeds around. Their coats boast a charming mix of short and long fur – with shorter hair on the head and back, while longer strands adorn their ears, chest, belly, and legs. These pooches come in a range of different solid hues (from black or light cream to red to brown) along with captivating parti-color designs featuring two or more shades – one being white!

The Cocker Spaniel is a beloved breed because he makes an ideal family dog. The key to having a harmonious relationship between your kids and this sensitive canine pal is making sure they are raised together, as well as ensuring that everyone—including the children—is respectful of animals. As long as proper introductions and training occurs, the Cocker will also get along nicely with other furry friends in the home such as cats, dogs, or small animals under advisement by adults.

With their high intelligence, Cockers are easy to train with a gentle, patient approach that respects their sensitivity. To help them become more comfortable and relaxed around people, it is important for young Cockers to be socialized frequently. Whenever you meet friends or family members who would like to give treats the pup should be encouraged – this will help the pup build positive associations with strangers!

The American Cocker Spaniel is a breed that does not require excessive exercise compared to their English counterpart. These loyal canines are content with just thirty minutes of walking on the lead every day, but they will happily join in if you wish to take longer walks or jogs!

American Cocker owners must dedicate ample time to proper grooming. Brushing is necessary every day, particularly around the ears and rear end, while ear cleaning should be done at least once a week. It’s wise for everyone except those with the greatest enthusiasm and skill to enlist the help of a professional groomer as well – American Cockers typically need their hair clipped and washed every two months or so in order to keep it under control.
