Taiwan Dog

It is thought that Taiwan Dogs’ ancestors were semi-wild canines who journeyed with Taiwanese Aboriginals across the strait from mainland Asia to Taiwan. In fact, some scientists speculate their presence on the island may predate humans by up to 10,000-20,000 years!

For centuries, the remarkable Taiwan Dog has served humans as a faithful companion. Though this ancient breed is still largely found in their ancestral homeland today, there is growing appreciation for these versatile canines across the world.

If you’re searching for an endearing and faithful companion who is always prepared to join your adventures, then Taiwan Dogs may be the perfect fit for you. These intelligent pooches can thrive in any climate so long as their owners are consistent with training them – just remember that they can also be stubborn at times, making them a less ideal choice for those without pet-parenting experience. If these unique qualities appeal to you however, this breed will certainly make your life full of joy!

For generations, these mountain dogs have been loyal to one individual and even today, the Taiwan Dog will develop a special bond with their primary caretaker. That doesn’t mean that your Taiwanese pup won’t show love for all members of the family – it just means who in the house they would be willing to fight for if need be.

For older children, the Taiwan Dog is an ideal companion. Unfortunately, this breed’s dominant nature may not be suitable for smaller kids and toddlers who can get easily knocked over due to their more vigorous playtime. The Taiwanese are generally amicable toward other dogs as long as they have been properly introduced.

Taiwan Dogs have an abundant amount of energy and can quickly turn aggressive or destructive if they aren’t given proper attention. To avoid this, make sure your pooch is provided with two thirty-minute to one hour walks daily supplemented by a handful of vigorous playtime sessions in addition to shorter strolls here and there. The Formosan Mountain Dog loves the outdoors so why not treat them to an outdoor adventure rather than just a walk around the block?

The Taiwan Dog features a distinct, dense coat of fur that can be slightly rough to the touch. These appealing coats come in various colors such as black, white, fawn and brindle – either singular or blended together! Unfortunately for allergy sufferers, even with their short length of fur these dogs still seasonally shed and may not be ideal pets.
