Pyrenean Mastiff

With its roots dating back to the Middle Ages in the Spanish kingdom of Aragon, the Pyrenean Mastiff is an impressive and robust breed which roamed among flocks of sheep tucked away in the Pyrenees Mountains. Not only did it seamlessly blend into their environment, but also served as a formidable guardian against wolves and bears that were native to this region for centuries.

Although its passive nature may deceive you, this breed is alert and protective when need be. It loves to cuddle with family members but will fiercely protect them if the situation calls for it. While cautious of strangers, it won’t attack unless provoked and has a special bond with children – however, their large size can make things tricky for kids who have yet to master walking!

This gigantic canine is an embodiment of strength and power, yet has a well-balanced body frame. Contrary to its size, it moves with graceful ease and speed – no sluggish characteristics whatsoever! It possesses a broad head with the skull slightly longer than the muzzle which is nearly as wide as the crown at its base. The forehead bears slight dome shape that gradually slopes towards a subtle stop.

This lavish coat is voluminous and lengthy, with luscious hairs coating the shoulders, neck, underside of belly area, backs of legs and tail. The bristles are rough but softer in cushioned areas like feathers. Always pure white in coloration with a prominent darker mask that’s an infallible part of its facial features; ears adorned by patches complementing other parts of it’s body for a finishing touch to this luxurious look!

The Pyrenean Mastiff is a tranquil, bold and composed canine. It is gentle with its owners and kids; impossible to anger. This docile pup generally interacts nicely with other dogs too, tolerating their pounces and nips while it relaxes in the company of family members.

Pyreneans are typically quite manageable to train, especially if the process begins early. However, it is essential for these pups to recognize that their owners are in a position of authority and should not be taken advantage of due to their alluring puppy eyes! To ensure your Pyrenean remains obedient throughout its life, make sure you master basic commands such as “sit,” “cease,” and “stay.” After all, since this breed is naturally protective against other animals or strangers within its environment; training them correctly can help keep both you and them safe from harm.

The Pyrenean Mastiff was bred to traverse great distances with its leisurely pace, making it a perfect dog for those who don’t need an overly active pet. It loves spending time in its backyard and going on gentle walks around the neighborhood; however, half an hour of walking is usually enough to keep it content. If you do take your pup out on a lead walk, they will likely have bursts of energy when encountering strangers or animals along their journey!

The Pyrenean’s protective coat sheds in abundance throughout the year, but is especially profuse during its two heaviest moults that occur in spring and autumn. To reduce this shedding, feeding your canine companion a quality diet and giving it regular brushing is highly recommended. For most of the year an every-other-day session should suffice, yet daily grooming should be done to help keep fur under control when heavy molting occurs.
