Norwegian Buhund

For hundreds of years, dogs have been an integral part of Norway’s culture and were highly valued by the Vikings. Norwegian Elkhound was mostly employed as a hunting dog whereas Buhunds were mainly utilized for herding livestock and protecting properties from predators like wolves and bears. With time, these canine companions have transcended their traditional roles to become working police officers and competitors in agility or obedience trials with great success!

The Norwegian Buhund is a medium-sized pup with the signature Spitz features including prick ears, an adorable foxy face, and a thick off-standing coat that wraps around his tail. Weighing 26 to 40 pounds, this breed’s fur sheds twice yearly – although regular brushing can help keep it manageable in between bouts of shedding. During those heavy shedding times you will also have to vacuum your house frequently as well as trim their nails when necessary and check their ears every couple of weeks for cleanliness!

This intelligent and teachable pup responds to the best of positive reinforcement, like playtime, compliments, and tasty treats. Keep your training sessions short but fun; not too long or he’ll get bored! To ensure a well-rounded workout regimen for him – take him on extended walks while you throw around his favorite ball or frisbee. He also excels in canine sport activities such as agility competitions, obedience trials, rally events and more – some have even been trained to become service animals.

Buhund are high-energy pooches that will require a lot of outdoor exercise. However, leaving them outdoors unsupervised won’t cut it: these canine companions love spending time with their owners whether it be on walks or other activities. And because they have the tendency to bark loudly, your neighbors might not appreciate the disturbance if you leave him alone in your backyard. While Buhunds make fantastic pets be warned they bark, shed, and have lots of energy!
