Blue Picardy Spaniel

With its heritage in the area around the mouth of France’s River Somme, The Blue Picardy Spaniel is a captivating breed dating back to nearly 1900. With an extraordinary coat color and composed demeanor, these canines are known for their agility and energy that they bring to playtime with children alike. While this distinguished breed may be little-known outside of just Canada or France, it has certainly been treasured by kennel associations worldwide.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, hunters from around the world were drawn to this area near the River Somme for its abundant wildfowl. Due to quarantine regulations in Britain, British shooters would take their dogs here and board them in nearby Picardy – resulting in English Setter blood mixing with that of local Spaniels. This was how Blue Picardy Spaniel was created!

The Blue Picardy is an especially versatile hunter, proficient at finding and pointing birds on land or water. His natural skills are easy to develop from a young age, while his intense style of standing point ensures that he stays focused on the task at hand. Depending on training and terrain, the Blue Picardy can be trained to search either in close proximity or farther away for game – making him a great choice for any hunt!

An average Blue Picardy Spaniel stands at approximately 22-24 inches when measured from the withers, and typically weighs in around 43-45 pounds. This breed is known for its distinguished bluish grey coat that often has black flecks and patches scattered throughout it. Its fur may be either straight or slightly waved, with soft feathering along its ears, legs, underbelly, and tail – resembling a setter’s features!

The Blue Picardy is an incredibly adaptive hunting dog, renowned for its uncanny ability to locate and retrieve game in even the most extreme terrains. Additionally, it performs outstandingly well during field trials! Not only that, but this breed is known to be relatively quiet yet needs a great deal of exercise as it has remarkable endurance levels. Moreover, they are exceptionally attached to their human companions and love children – making them perfect for family environments with active lifestyles.

If you are an outdoor enthusiast who is looking for a canine companion to join your active lifestyle, then the Blue Picardy could be just what you need. This natural retriever enjoys playing fetch and taking a dip in the water, making it great for those wanting to take their pup on runs or hikes. Not only that but they also love being challenged with thrilling sporting activities too!

The Blue Picardy is an incredibly devoted and loving breed that will snuggle up in bed with you at night. They are fantastic socializers, particularly when they have been brought up around other animals – but be careful to keep away small pets and birds as their friendliness only goes so far!

To ensure your Blue Picardy’s coat remains glossy, tangle-free and pristine, brush it twice a week. Doing so will help remove dirt or mud that accumulates during their daily adventures outside. During spring and fall shedding seasons you may need to brush more frequently as this helps keep dead hair off furniture and clothes. For an immaculate look, trim the feathering around paws pads too! Bathing your pup should be done based on how often they go outdoors – this can vary from weekly to monthly or quarterly baths depending on the situation.
