American Eskimo

The American Eskimo is a gorgeous dog that has been referred to as “The Dog Beautiful.” He’s also clever, active and mischievous. If you don’t have those qualities in greater amounts, he’ll control you before long. This Spitz breed comes in three sizes (standard, miniature and toy), but he might not the be the best fit for everyone.

The Eskie gazes at you with an eager, vigilant look. He loves goofing around and is always up for new adventures. His curious and humorous personality will bring a smile to your face several times each day. He feels things deeply and doesn’t enjoy witnessing arguing among family members. Therefore, avoid bickering in front of him; he won’t appreciate it

He loves his family dearly, but he may not be the best choice for a household with small children. He can become agitated when hugged or handled too roughly, and startled when approached suddenly. He’s also mistrustful of strangers and is an excellent guard dog. However, sometimes he barks excessively, which can create loud noise in smaller living spaces like apartments unless someone is around to quiet him down.

With patience and consistency, you can train your Eskie to be responsive. For best results, use positive reinforcement techniques such as praise, play and treats.

Lastly, the American Eskimo is a dog that loves people and, as such, should live in the house where it will receive companionship from its humans. An unhappy Eskie is one that lives in the backyard with little to no human interaction.
