American Hairless Terrier

The American Hairless Terrier is a newly developed breed that originated less than 40 years ago. These dogs are direct descendants of the Rat Terrier and share many similarities with them, except for one very obvious difference – they are completely hairless. The American Hairless Terrier is the only hairless dog breed indigenous to the United States. Today, the breed is known as an active companion dog and an especially great choice for allergy sufferers. Some fans of the new breed abbreviate the name to AHT, while some refer to them as hairless Rat Terriers.

Possessing their natural terrier instinct to hunt, the American Hairless Terrier is not typically suited for a working dog because of its exposed skin. Thus, this rare breed makes an excellent family pet due to its cheerful personality and unique hairlessness. As people become more aware of this adorable pup’s attributes and advantages, be sure that its popularity will only continue growing!

The American Hairless Terrier is a robust and small to medium-sized terrier that seems much like the Rat Terrier. In spite of this, they have many visible differences such as their stature, eye coloration and coat coloring. Furthermore, another distinctive difference between them (which isn’t biological) is that the former’s tail will not be chopped off while it’s rampant in the latter breed – particularly in America nowadays!

The unique skin patterns of the Hairless American Terrier make them a stand-out breed. AHTs can come in colors ranging from black, sable and blue to brindle, red or brown.

The American Hairless Terrier is an ideal companion for active kids, and socializing them with children should start at a young age. To ensure that your AHT is comfortable around children of any age, introduce them slowly and make sure the child knows how to interact gently with the dog. Keep in mind that this breed is smaller than usual so it’s essential to be mindful as they are more prone to injury from overeager play! Generally, American Hairless Terriers tend to interact well with other dogs if they are introduced gradually; however, AHTs still retain the chasing instincts of their Rat Terrier parents when it comes to cats.

The American Hairless is an incredibly smart, lively and inquisitive terrier. They love to dig and chase after small prey such as rats due to their strong instinct, making them excellent guard dogs thanks to their fearlessness and determination.

The American Hairless Terrier is often lauded as one of the easiest terriers to train. They not only excel in agility and obedience competitions but, like all terriers, can have a mischievous side. Consequently, they need a trainer who is firm yet encouraging. This breed respond best to positive reinforcement training methods.

The American Hairless Terrier is an energetic, playful pup that requires regular walks and activities to stay stimulated. If left with nothing but boredom, they’ll display destructive behavior like nonstop barking or chewing – so it’s important for them to have a designated spot to dig in if you want to keep your things intact! Despite their need for activity, these small-sized dogs are perfectly suited for apartment living as long as there’s plenty of playtime and exercise involved!
