Pug

Believed to have begun in China, the history of pugs is rather obscure. It’s speculated that these short-haired and wrinkled faced canines were introduced into Holland by Portuguese traders during the 16th century, becoming a beloved companion among the Dutch royalty. In 1689, when Prince William and Mary came to power over England, they brought with them an affinity for their four-legged friends – thus beginning their rule as one of England’s most popular breeds!

With his squishy face, box-shaped body and spiral tail, the Pug is a charmer in every sense of the word. His comical disposition and amenable nature makes him an ideal companion for all members of your family – including other dogs, cats or children! You won’t be able to bring him running with you but he loves outings to parks or offices alike; no matter where you go this playful pup will make sure it’s fun!

With their charming and friendly personalities, Pugs have been a staple in households for centuries. They are happiest when surrounded by people; following them from room to room with nothing but adoration in their eyes. These beloved pups have smooth coats that come in different shades of tan, gray and black – showcasing the signature “black mask” on their cutely creased faces which only adds to their charm.

With an unmistakable little puff of a tail and chunky, muscular build, a Pug should ideally only reach up to 20 pounds. Sadly though many Pugs surpass this weight due to their ability to beg for food – leading them down the path of obesity and therefore further increasing health issues in these solid canines.

With their big personalities and occasional stubbornness, Pugs can be a challenge to train. That’s why it is so essential to begin obedience training early – before bad behaviors become habits. It takes focus and commitment on the part of the owner but with patience and consistency you will have a well-behaved Pug in no time!

The Pug can endure various medical issues due to its limited gene pool, as well as the prioritization of striking characteristics which has caused health problems. A high-temperature environment is a major problem for the breed since even 80 degrees can be life-threatening and hence, air conditioning must always be available in all but moderate summers. This canine cannot reside outdoors; it requires an internal atmosphere at all times.

Although the Pug requires particular attention to his special needs, he is a low-maintenance pet. His hair may shed from time to time, but grooming him does not call for much effort. Exercise should be kept at an appropriate level since overworking could be detrimental; however it’s imperative to keep your pup in shape and mentally engaged as he matures. Also due to their strong attachment with people, one must make sure that they get accustomed being alone so separation anxiety isn’t too severe when left behind.
