Italian Greyhound

Boasting a sleek, sophisticated figure and miniaturized athletic physique of the larger Greyhound, the Italian Greyhound is an exquisite lapdog that has been bred not for racing but rather as devoted companions to high society. Their personalities are gentle yet friendly; they love attention with an endearing submissiveness that sets them apart from other breeds. It’s no wonder why this breed has remained a beloved favorite among many!

Featuring a slender build and lustrous short fur, the Italian Greyhound is an alluring sighthound that stands out from its relatives. With their deep brown eyes, long muzzle and captivating floppy ears, these dainty dogs are about half as tall as typical Greyhounds but twice as charming!

A Greyhound in miniature, this breed is small enough to fit under your arm and doesn’t realize it! He loves jumping off furniture without a care for his size and safety, but he does require minimal grooming. Unfortunately, housetraining may not be top of mind as well. Although the Italian Greyhound needs protection from bigger dogs, rowdy children, and himself due to his fragile build – he looks forward with enthusiasm; one foot lifted from the ground while perked ears fix on what’s ahead of him.

While he may be smart, this pint-sized pooch has yet to realize just how small and delicate his bones actually are. Unfortunately, fractures unfortunately tend to occur frequently with Italian Greyhounds; though some breeds possess sturdier bones than others, it’s something that all IG owners should anticipate – and attempt to avoid if at all possible!

With the right amount of physical activity, an IG can feel right at home in a cozy apartment. When they are young, it’s essential to ensure that they get enough exercise and stimulation so that when they reach adulthood, their routine becomes easy and pleasant.

Grooming the IG is nearly effortless: brush your pet occasionally with a soft bristle brush, trim their nails and clean their ears regularly to avoid any shedding issues. Brushing teeth also helps keep bad breath away! With these tips in mind, you’ll be able to keep up with regular maintenance for your furry friend easily.

Training Iggys (their nickname!) can be tricky. While they may be friendly and loving, they are also known to have a bit of attitude and defiance in them. They might express their unhappiness differently than other small dogs; think more along the lines of creative disobedience! The key is consistent training from day one – establish acceptable routines right away or you could end up with some unpleasant surprises down the line. It’s important to stay firm but gentle for optimal results!

Despite their petite build, the Italian Greyhound proves to be a fierce friend. They should be safeguarded from bigger dogs and children that tend to roughhouse; however, they get along well with other canines as well as cats.
