Chihuahua

The Chihuahua may be the tiniest breed of dog in existence, yet they have an immense presence. Loyal and brave creatures with a sharp intelligence, these small dogs potentially trace their beginnings to domesticated wild pups that were bred by the Toltecs long ago. Further refined as popularity grew throughout Mexico and later America, nowadays these darling companions make beloved pets given their bold personalities and tiny stature.

Despite his size, this Chihuahua is an exceptional watchdog who knows exactly what he wants and actively pursues it. Proper training to moderate barking might be necessary if you want a quieter pup, but the payoff will be worth it! With loyalty for days, a feisty personality, and big round eyes that allow you to see into their soulful minds – The appeal of these tiny (sometimes two pounds!) pups are undeniable.

The Chihuahua can be a great companion with many endearing qualities, but it is not suitable for children. While his small size may make him perfect to carry around in a pup-purse, due to its fragility and high-strung temperament, this little breed of dog should not interact with young kids – as they are prone to nipping, snapping and even biting when threatened or scared. So if you’re looking for the ideal pooch for your family’s smallest member(s), look elsewhere!

With proper socialization and training, Chihuahuas can learn how to play nicely with other dogs. Too often though, owners let their little Chi become a terror – displaying conduct that no bigger pooch would ever get away with. From the moment your pup arrives in your home, use gentle yet consistent instruction to dissuade him from nipping or squabbling with larger breeds. As always seems to be the case when it comes to small canine companions: they don’t understand just how tiny they are! Furthermore, Chihuahuas, like many other small breeds of dogs, require consistency and dedication to house train successfully.

The Chihuahua is an exuberant, vocal guard dog that will alert to any perceived invasion of his territory. This breed typically shows deep affection for one special person and sometimes the rest of their family but may remain cold or aloof towards strangers.

Chihuahuas come in two distinct coat types – short and long. While the short-haired type is prone to more shedding, it requires less work than its longer counterpart which needs daily brushing to prevent matting and get rid of old hairs. Plus, because these dogs are so tiny regardless of their fur length, there isn’t as much hair to maintain compared to larger breeds!
