WALK TO TOWER ROCK, a rare opportunity…normally an island

October 26 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT

Tower Rock is normally an island in the middle of the Mississippi. With the river at record low levels, you can now walk to it. Let’s do it!

About 2 hours south of STL, down Hwy 55 past Ste. Genevieve. We will meet there at 11:00 a.m., later than usual, so we don’t have to leave the metro area too early.

I’m going dogless, so we can stop for lunch on the way back. I believe dogs are allowed, but check it out for yourself if you plan to bring your pup. No guarantee that we will find a dog friendly restaurant/patio, and winds will be gusty, so Fido might have to stay in the car if you plan on lunch. High temp around 60-65 degrees and sunny.

***DRIVING DIRECTIONS: (copied from website)***

***From Altenburg, take Route A east, then County Road 460 and follow this road south to the area. Road access to the area is difficult when the Mississippi River Chester Gauge is 32 feet or higher.***

Use your GPS. I’ve never been here, so no idea where we will meet, once there. Will comment on meetup once we arrive, if it looks complicated. The map on MEETUP seems to line up with above directions.
Wingin’ it here.
