THURSDAY DOG HIKE, Castlewood creek walk.
September 22 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm EDT
Perfect way to get the dogs out for some play time on hot summer days. One of our group favorites, the creek walk at Castlwood. About 2-3 miles, most of it in the cool clear water of the spring fed creek.
**HAVE TO TWEEK THIS A LITTLE: When we get to the swimmin’ hole, we need to keep the “stick fetch” games with the rowdy big dogs out of the festivities. Let’s keep it under control, so all of the pups have a chance to enjoy.**
**We have smaller dogs….some who are trying to learn how to swim for the first time. And even other bigger dogs who cannot enjoy the water if it’s too rowdy. The big dogs cannot take over the entire swimmin’ hole and just go crazy. It’s okay to let them swim, but we cannot make it dangerous or “not fun” for the other dogs. Let’s give all the dogs a chance to enjoy. Thanks.**
Ticks: Please treat your dog with Frontline or equivalent on any of our warm weather hikes. We have had very little trouble with ticks on this hike, because we are actually in the water much of the time. Keep your dog out of the brush on creekbank and you should be pretty safe.
Footwear: Wear OLD sneakers WITH SOCKS. The socks will keep the rocks out. Flip flops or sandals are not good here.
For this hike only, retractable leash is okay so pups can play in the water. Please keep them short until we’re in the creek.
Use meetup mapping or gps to get to the park.
Once inside the park, park at the SECOND LOT ON THE LEFT, a little before the RR tunnel. It’s a pretty big parking lot and it is shaded to keep cars cool for pups. If you get to the tunnel, you’ve gone about 500′ too far.
Meetup map pin is in the right place.
