SUNDAY DOG PADDLE, Pacific Palisades to Allenton. B.Y.O.BOAT.

July 31 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm EDT

B.Y.O.BOAT, no rentals.

A point-to-point float on a totally isolated and beautiful portion of the Meramec River. We will stop for lunch on the sandbar that we always see from the Glassberg overlook deck. Water is warm enough to swim.

If you’re new to river runs, this is a very good place to start. Not too long, not hard, only a couple of “fun” spots and plenty of time to learn how to read the river.

About 8 miles, allow 5 hours. We will finish when we finish. We are not going to power paddle through it. We stop to take pictures, enjoy the scenery and let the pups swim/cool off whenever we need to. Lunch around mid point.

You won’t see a road, house or many humans for the first 6 miles. No cell reception at many spots. We are in the middle of nowhere. Scenery is fabulous, not like the areas we’ve paddled so far, much better.

There are almost no outfitters here, so it’s mostly private owner kayaks. No tubers or huge crowds. There will be some big boats after the halfway point, but they are very respectful as long as we stay to the side and don’t hog the entire river.

RATED EASY, but it is 8 miles, and not much current for the last 2-3 miles.

SHUTTLING: Comment and communicate below. Be sure to specify if you have hardshell or inflatable kayak/sup. Inflatable people are not set up to haul hardshells, so there are 2 different sets of shuttle arrangements.

Park respectfully and as tight as possible. The lots are very full by the time we finish, so leave room for other cars/trucks/trailers.

NO GREENIES (Intex kayaks). You must have a hardshell or an upgraded inflatable kayak or sup…and have some basic paddling skills.

DOGS OKAY, if they stay in/on your kayak/sup.
Dora has plans to attend her first river run in the kayak. Fingers crossed.

Dogs and humans must wear PFD at all times when on the water. If you don’t like this rule, don’t paddle with us. Too many drownings on this river lately.

We will meet at the Allenton Access at 9:10, load up and caravan about 15 minutes to the Pacific access to launch. Don’t be late, we should be loaded in cars by 9:20 and on the road to Pacific launch site….arrive there by 9:30. If you’re late, we won’t wait for you. We should be on the water by 10:00-ish, but we will leave when we’re all ready.

Meet at put in (Pacific) by 9:30. Inflatable people will arrive at about 9:30-ish to guard your kayaks while you shuttle cars.

Shuttle drive is super easy and short for this one.

Be sure you communicate below about carpooling and shuttling, you’ll need to know who you’re riding with.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: Use meetup mapping, it works well here for Allenton/take out ramp.

Take-Out ramp and INFLATABLES meet to shuttle:

Hwy 44 to the Allenton/Six Flags Exit (the next exit past Hwy 109). Turn LEFT on Allenton Road, going away from Six Flags and back under Hwy 44 to stopsign. You will go STRAIGHT at stopsign across a one-lane bridge and over RR tracks. Turn left onto road, go up about 1/4 mile to right at first stopsigh on Huntersford Road. Down a very big hill. Small sign on right for river access once you reach the level part of the road. You will turn left onto access road.

Put in ramp where HARDSHELLS meet to shuttle:

Hwy 44 to Allenton/Six Flags exit, go left at stoplight to Old Hwy 66 near the highway and go right towards Pacific. You will see the Pacific prison on your right. You will turn left at the sign for Pacific Palisades (right across from prison), cross the RR tracks and immediately right on paved road, to gravel road that leads to the boat ramp. There are signs.
