Salt Lick Dog Hike (5.8 Miles / Moderately Challenging)
November 13 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm EST
Explore this 5.8-mile loop trail near Valmeyer, Illinois. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 51 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, running, and walking, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
Length: 5.8 mi
Elevation gain: 1,131 ft
Route type: Loop
This is a beautiful trail, but there is a ginormously steep hill at the very beginning that is not for the faint of heart.
There is a turn off that will take you back to the parking lot that can shorten this to ~3 miles, if anyone doesn’t feel up to the whole 6 miles.
This will not be a power hike. We stop frequently for pictures and general shenanigans. We will hike at a pace the group is comfortable with, with no pup left behind.
We will meet at the trailhead by the parking lot.
Great Attitude and Sense of Humor
Hiking Boots are recommended, poles if you use them
Dog Necessities and Plenty of Water
Snacks, if desired
**Please do not be a no-show. My pups will have to listen to me complain about it the whole way home. Don’t make those sweet pups have to deal with that.**
