Come explore the wildlife in Kane’s Creek! This will be a leisurely paddle so we can enjoy nature and hopefully see some bald eagles!
Renters – No Dog Friendly Rentals Available 🙁
Boat Owners: There is a boat launch where you can temporarily park to get your equipment set up on a small beach.
Where: **ENTRANCE FEE** Mason Neck State Park – 7301 High Point Rd, Lorton, VA 22079
When: The park opens at 8am, so don’t get there too early. We will aim to head out around 9am. High tide is right around 8:30am, so we should have maximum access to Kanes Creek
We will paddle out to the creek first, and then maybe hit a beach on the other side if we have time and feel up for it. Hope some of you with your own gear can join in!
Description from the webpage: Mason Neck State Park is located on a peninsula formed by Pohick Bay on the north, Belmont Bay on the south and the Potomac River on the east. Interpretive Rangers provide guided canoe tours on Kane’s Creek and Belmont Bay, giving you knowledgable information to explore the area. While on your tour, you will enter the realm of the Bald Eagle, Osprey, Great Blue Heron, Beaver and the aquatic life living in our waters Marvel as the eagles perch in trees and soar over the bay while you paddle along to see the active heron rookery. Relax and surround yourself with the sounds of songbirds, owls, and woodpeckers. Spot a white-tailed deer, or if you’re lucky you may even catch a glimpse of the rarely seen piebald deer!
Things to bring: Water for you and your dog, Doggie Life vest, Sunscreen/protective clothing, Footwear (if your dog falls and swims to shore you may have to go after him/her), dry bag for your phone/keys/snack/etc..
What to expect: Lot’s of beautiful wildlife. And hopefully some bald eagles!
Weather: Will cancel if chance of storms or heavy rain.
