KAYAKING & DOG SWIM PARTY/PICNIC at George Winter Park
August 6 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm EDT
B.Y.O.BOAT. No rentals.
This is a very easy run, about 3 miles total. An out and back paddle, we can go upstream to Minnie Ha Ha, then back. Usually very little current and no obstacles. There are usually bigger boats, jet skis and Asian Carp that might end up in your kayak….happened to me here.
Then we can go to the island beach, if the river is down, for a doggie swim party. It’s an awesome place to let the dogs run, play and fetch sticks from the water. If the wind is too bad, we might have to skip this part. There are other sandbars along the river. We’ll find a spot, unless it’s flooded.
**BIG DOG OWNERS….While this is a great way for dogs to play, please be considerate of other dogs, especially the wee ones. If you want a rowdy game of stick fetch, please move down the beach away from the group and let the rest of us enjoy just swimming with our dogs. And try to limit a bunch of barking. It is annoying and some of us don’t want our dogs to learn bad habits. Thanks.**
This run is fine when river is flooded, we can opt to stay in the lake if it’s really bad. Wind, however, can be tough on the lake. We’ll watch that. Let’s hope for a calm day.
DOGS MUST WEAR PFD AT ALL TIMES when onboard.
Humans must have PFD aboard and easily accessible.
Keep dogs leashed until you’re on the water.
Bring water bowl and poop bags for dogs.
Park sensibly, the lot will be very full by the time we finish.
Plan on launching around 10:00. Arrive before that and be ready to go.
***Okay for Intex greenies.***
Use meetup mapping or GPS to get to park. When you turn into park, take the road fork to the right. Pass the first parking lot, it’s in full sun. Follow road to second parking area under the trees. There is another boat ramp there and cars will stay cooler.
**PLEASE KEEP YOUR KAYAK TO THE **LEFT** ON THE BOAT RAMP. There are 5-6 lanes, and the boaters with trailers use the ones on the right.**
