DOG HIKE at PICKLE SPRINGS. Optional Hickory Canyon after, if you want to go.
November 12, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm EST
OUR VERY BEST SCENERY HIKE, and our group’s favorite excursion. Rock formations and bluffs are awesome here.
RATED DIFFICULT. Steep trails, creeks, rock bluffs. Expect muddy boots and dirty dogs, if it’s been raining. If you’re carpooling, bring towels for your dog and your feet. But it’s only about 2 miles long with a lot of stops.
GOOD HIKING BOOTS ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED for safety.
HIKING POLES are strongly recommended, especially if it’s muddy.
ONE DOG PER PERSON, it’s just not a good trail for multiple dogs.
BRING LUNCH, we’ll eat at Pickle before heading to Hickory.
BRING WATER FOR YOUR DOG AND YOURSELF.
No bathroom anywhere here, stop in Farmington or go in the woods.
Our pace is slower than most meetup groups, we’re here to enjoy the scenery and relax. This is not a power hike.
Pickle trail is about 2 miles long, allow 2-3 hours…scenery is that good, lots to explore and see. Hickory is about 1 mile long on one side of road.
We won’t be back home until about 4:00, if you do both trails
DRIVING DIRECTIONS…. Use your GPS or meetup mapping feature to get to Pickle Springs by 10:00. It’s about 1 hour from Arnold area. Take 55 to Farmington Exit, go south on Hwy 67 to second (main) Farmington exit, HWY 32 east.
Follow Hwy 32 about 7-8 miles to RIGHT ON HWY AA. Take Hwy AA about 1.5 miles to left on Dorlac Road. There is a small sign on the right and big pine tree grove on left where you turn. Parking lot is short ways up on right.
We will follow gps from Pickle to Hickory, won’t be so hard to caravan on back country roads. About a 20 minute drive for this part.
No cell reception in some spots after you leave Farmington. Know before you go. No cell at parking lot sometimes.
