We’ll be limiting our size & practicing social distancing. Exercise & socializing is important for us all. As our event’s outside & we don’t have direct contact & are taking safety precautions, give yourself needed gift of safe beautiful feel good exercise & join us Saturday, September 17 & don’t miss out & RSVP for our upcoming beautiful weekend Hikes: this weekend- Sat. 9/10 beautiful ROCK CREEK PARK & Sun. 9/11 beautiful must see DUMBARTON OAKS PARK.

Come join myself & my dog Bogie in exploring & enjoying hidden gem of Roosevelt Island while enjoying bonding, good conversation. We did this before & was such fun, good exercise, a beautiful setting that we loved it & thus have to do it again & several doglovers requested we go again & Bogie who loves it every time esp, as he gets to swim. If you want to hike to the Island with us, meet us outside *The Coffee Bar (TCB) at 9:15 am*. Or you can meet us on *Roosevelt Island’s bridge at 10:45 am*. We’ll enjoy a good calorie burning hike-just 3 miles-to beautiful Island-definitely worth a visit; indeed, once I went to the Island, I right away start planning my next visit. The Island gives you a wonderful escape from DC’s hustle. Once there, we’ll explore the Island together. Your dog-can swim &/or go off leash. You may bring a guest(s) & friendly dog. We should return around 12:30-1:15pm.*To make our Safe Feel Better Beautiful in Nature Hikes Even Better & More Meaningful, we’ve added some Book Talk & brief optional art & meditation opportunities interspersed occasionally when there’s something really beautiful to see & stop briefly & take in, discuss with the others, sketch it if you want, briefly meditate over its beauty if so desire &/or take in further with say a water break.**

We can’t wait to see you on September 17******

A footbridge connects the Island from its parking lot. Many consider the bridge a sign to relax as they’re entering beautiful hidden gem of Roosevelt Island & can connect to nature. On the tree-filled isle, they stroll the curving dirt paths, pausing on the boardwalk to watch great blue herons & kingfishers. The Island has an interesting past: a Native American fishing village, the site of a 1790s mansion with ornamental gardens & Civil War-era Union Army training ground. The natural-looking landscape, where hikers sometimes spot frogs & even a fox, was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. in 1930s-40s. This wooded oasis in the Potomac River offers 3 intersecting trails. The Swamp Trail ambles near the shore through placid marshes. The Upland & Woods trails cut through the middle & lead to 17 ft Theodore Roosevelt statue. Despite proximity to DC, you’ll feel like you’re on a secluded retreat & connecting with nature. Thus take refuge on secluded island as we’ll stroll woodsy trails that loop around tranquil Roosevelt Island. As mentioned, Native Americans used 88 acre Island as a makeshift fishing camp, but today the only full-time residents are deer, turkeys, foxes, eagles & statue of 26th Pres.https://www.washingtonian.com/2015/05/04/roosevelt-island/ )

Dirs:ByCar- Drivers only reach Roosevelt Island from northbound lanes of GW Mem Pkway. After Mem Bridge, follow sign 2 turn right into parking Lot. Adjacent 2 parking lot’s bridge where we’re meeting.
