EXPLORER DOG HIKE, off trail at Rockwood

February 12 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm EST

Our EXPLORER DOGS are an elite group of adventurers that go tromping through the woods where there are no trails, sometimes get lost, usually get muddy and dirty….but we sure do find some neat stuff. Sometimes, we find nothing, just get lost and have to try to find our way out of whatever mess we’ve gotten into. Expect burrs, mud and steep slopes….with no trail to follow.

This time, we’ll be searching for the new rock climbing bluff at Rockwood, but we’ll have to go off trail to get there. (Going by car is no fun). We wil start at the Lime Kiln Trail and bushwhack through the woods in search of this new feature. Probably have to come back the same way.

NO FIRST TIMERS WITH OUR GROUP FOR THIS ONE. You must have done at least two 5 mile wilderness hikes with us (not Queeny) or your name will be removed from attending list. If you don’t know what you need to bring, you shouldn’t sign up.

I’ll have a paper map. Usually it helps, but sometimes not.

As with all of our Explorer Dog hikes, consider it difficult. Dress appropriately. Hiking pants that repel burrs. Hiking boots and poles. Bring a snack and water and don’t be in a hurry. If you bring your dog, expect burrs. There is NO TRAIL where we’re going.

Use meetup mapping or GPS to get to Rockwood Reservation off 109. Park at Lime Kiln lot, first parking lot on right.
