Shiba Inu
The Shiba has been a part of Japan for many centuries, initially used to hunt larger game. By the 1920s he had gained his now-familiar name and was declared in 1936 as one of Japan’s most prized assets. The smallest among all dogs native to Japan, this breed has been bred solely for hunting purposes in mountainous regions – an area where it can confidently explore thanks to its sharp navigational abilities and strong watchdog capabilities. With boundless energy and spirit, the Shiba is truly a remarkable specimen that will never cease to amaze you!
The majestic Shiba Inu is a sight to behold, with its bright eyes, luxurious coat and distinguished tail. This small but mighty breed weighs under 25 pounds and is known as an official Japanese national treasure. Not only will the Shiba Inu bring joy into your home with his endearing charm and affectionate personality; he also has a fun-loving attitude toward life’s little surprises – but he won’t hesitate to challenge your commands!
Shiba Inus are renowned for their spirited, independent nature and speedy attitude. While these characteristics make them an interesting breed to own, owners should be prepared to provide guidance in order to prevent any potential issues from arising. Due to their strong prey drive and dislike of other small dogs, Shibas may not do well with young children or other pets already present in the home. Additionally, when feeling distressed they will most likely vocalize their feelings with a high-pitched “Shiba scream” – something that pet parents must be aware of before bringing one into the family!
Shibas are incredibly active, eager to hike and run with their human companions. As they mature out of puppyhood, they’re content with a few romps each week. However, Shibas can be notorious escape artists so make sure your property is properly fenced in to avoid any potential escapes. Always keep an eye on children, workers or anyone else that could potentially leave the gate unlatched as Shibas will take off if given a chance!
With a remarkably thick double-coated fur that is easy to maintain and four primary colour varieties (red, sesame, black and tan, or white), Shibas are a captivating breed. Although they have inherited diseases which tend to be easily treated with the right care, some of those ailments have become less common due to careful screening during breeding processes. Additionally, failing to give Shibas proper training can lead to behavioral issues; however if given the correct instruction from an experienced owner these problems can usually be avoided! Thanks in part their healthy diet program and frequent exercise ,Shibas can live between 12–15 years old on average.
Boasting remarkable intelligence, the Shiba Inu possesses the capability to master intricate tricks and behaviors. Just like other intelligent breeds such as the Border Collie or German Shepherd, Shibas can derive immense satisfaction from complex tasks like obedience classes and agility training. Nevertheless, it is imperative for owners to incentivize them in order for them complete these assigned duties effectively. Many Shiba owners have reported that their beloved pet will only perform actions they deem valuable enough!
The Shiba breed has an incredibly strong bond with its human family, and finds it difficult to handle separation. If you’re thinking of keeping your Shiba in the backyard or garage, we urge you not to – their bold nature will shine through as destructive noise.
