Sealyham Terrier

In the mid-19th century, British sportsmen strived to create breeds that would be perfectly suited for their needs. One of them was Captain John Edwardes from the “Sealyham House” in Haverfordwest, Wales. Over 40 years he developed a strain of dogs he named Sealyhams; these canines were ideal for hunting badger and otter thanks to their small size which made it easy for them to fit into dens or setts. Additionally, they had white fur so that hounds wouldn’t mistake them as prey while waiting in ambush.

Although originally bred to hunt badger, the breed has transformed over time into a cuddly companion rather than a fighter. He is an upbeat pup with loads of personality who occasionally barks louder than one might expect; yet at only 20-25 pounds he’s ideal for smaller living spaces. His light shedding coat makes him suitable around children and other canines – cats needn’t worry as there isn’t much temptation in chasing them!

If you’re looking for a light-hearted, joyous companion who’s as content on the sofa watching your favorite show as chasing chipmunks in the yard – look no further than Sealyham Terrier. The scruffy pup has an endearing personality and jovial spirit that will never fail to bring a smile to your face! With bright eyes and bushy eyebrows, he peers out at his surroundings with unending curiosity. He may be curious but don’t let his size fool you – this little guy is all love and would much rather give hugs than pick fights!

The Sealyham Terrier may look like a feisty terrier, but he’s far from it. He is actually quite the chilled-out companion that doesn’t require much exercise and has a comical personality to boot. In addition, this pup loves other dogs just as much as humans! If you have your heart set on having one of these high-style furballs in your home but don’t think you can handle their overzealous personalities — no worries– the Sealyham Terrier might be for you!

Sealyhams are intelligent, observant canines that possess the capability to execute a broad selection of commands and tricks. Despite their admirable qualities, they still remain terriers and may demonstrate intransigence from time-to-time as well as choose when to pay attention or not. Training needs to be entertaining for them but also kept brief with ample positive reinforcement by means of encouragement or treats.

With regular grooming and trimming, the Sealyham can look immaculate; however, its wiry coat tends to knot up easily, which will also cause it to grow more. If you’re unwilling or unable to clip your pup’s hair short, then uniform brushing three times a week is essential for tangle-free fur – not only does this consume much of your free time but requires hand stripping of dead hairs too! As such many owners opt for professional grooming every 6-8 weeks – an action that aids in managing their dog’s mane with greater ease.
