The Pharaoh Hound, with its longstanding reputation as one of the oldest dog breeds around since 3,000 B.C.E., has recently been proven to have originated more recently than previously thought – most likely in the 17th century on Malta’s island and appropriately called Kelb tal-Fenek . This breed was declared national Maltese canine in 1979 due to their hunting capabilities and presence on the island!
At a cursory glance, you might think that the Pharaoh Hound is an exquisite sculpture crafted from sandstone of some ancient Egyptian ruler’s beloved pup. But then you witness him in motion and are taken aback by his majestic beauty! This exotic looking creature not only looks regal but has an amusing side as well; if you live with one, it helps to have a sense of humor.
Whether he’s being aloof, playful, intense or goofy – this pup has a mind of his own. He’ll snatch food whenever and wherever possible and chase anything that moves. You better increase the height of your fence to 8 feet if you want him contained; an underground electric fence won’t hold him back as he will probably just jump right through it without returning!
With his outstanding athleticism and agility, the Pharaoh Hound excels at lure coursing and obedience training. He requires regular exercise of around 20 to 30 minutes daily on a leash coupled with some playtime in an enclosed yard. However, once these needs have been met, he is content to be lazy while lounging on your furniture in sunny spots – only barking when someone knocks at the door!
Pharaoh Hounds exuberantly adore children, making them the perfect playmate for those with older kids. Though they may be too energetic and enthusiastic to keep up with toddlers in their family. What’s more is that Pharaohs are also content enjoying themselves; often roaming around before returning to check-in if there’s any fun tasks at hand! These pooches will always look forward to joining in on activities – but you won’t find them constantly following your steps throughout the house.
The Pharaoh Hound boasts a shiny, short coat that requires minimal upkeep. Make sure to give your pup a weekly brushing to brush away dead hairs and regularly trim their nails, clean their teeth, and wipe down its ears for optimal health maintenance.
The Pharaoh Hound is motivated by receiving attention, making it the perfect breed for training. Utilize positive reinforcement like treats, praise and playtime to get him engaged in learning new commands; however, be sure to not make any sessions too long or repetitive if he already knows what you are asking of him.
Pharaoh Hounds are known for barking, so it is important to train them early on when it’s acceptable and when not to bark, or else you may end up with a nuisance dog. Unfortunately, they can also dig underneath fences unless precautionary measures have been taken beforehand to make your fence ‘dig proof’.
Sighthounds are stimulated by motion, and the Pharaoh Hound is no exception. This breed of dog may be prone to chasing cats or other petite animals if not trained properly from a young age. If your Pharaoh Hound has been raised with small pets in the home, he will likely get along well with them when closely monitored; however it is still suggested that you separate them whenever you’re away from home for safety’s sake.
The Pharaoh Hound should never be kept outdoors due to his weak coat and fragile frame, instead he needs a warm indoor home with access to comfortable bedding or furniture. The Pharaoh Hound loves its people and it will become sad if left alone in the backyard with minimal human interaction. Therefore having him inside is vital for his wellbeing and happiness!
