Manchester Terrier

With a slim, elegant silhouette and an impressive heritage, the Manchester Terrier is believed to have been bred from Britain’s black and tan terrier blended with a Whippet. Some speculate that other breeds were also used in its genesis such as the Italian Greyhound. This breed has deep roots in Manchester where rat killing and rabbit coursing were favored pastimes; it was crafted for excellence at both events – earning him widespread adoration throughout Great Britain!

The Manchester Terrier – both Toy and Standard varieties – is an incredibly intelligent, active, yet well-mannered pooch. Despite not being as aggressive as other terriers, this breed’s instinct to hunt rodents remains strong; meaning no pocket pets are safe in its presence! While it may be annoying when they outsmart you every now and then with their antics, the Manchester has been keeping inns free of rats and mice for centuries now. It takes its job seriously so much that even cats or other small animals might find themselves unwelcome in a household owned by one of these dogs!

The Manchester breed comes in two variations – standard and toy. Standard Manchesters weigh between 12-22 lbs, while Toys are lighter than 12lbs. Their petite frames makes them convenient for any size home!

The Manchester Terrier is a self-assured breed that can easily express their displeasure with a nip, so it may not be the ideal choice for households with children. Fortunately, they rarely suffer from health issues and have an average life expectancy of 14 to 15 years – some have even made it into their late teens!

The Manchester Terrier is bursting with intelligence and a desire for adventure, as well as being full of personality. He’s an exceptional guard dog who loves to keep watch, but his alertness can make him prone to barking or digging if he gets too excited. To ensure this doesn’t happen, it’s essential that you provide your pup with plenty of companionship and exercise every day – keeping their curiosity satisfied will help curb any unwanted behaviors from developing!

Training a Manchester doesn’t have to be an arduous task. Rather, they are extremely receptive to positive reinforcement methods such as rewards in the forms of praise, playtime and treats! To captivate their attention, keep instruction sessions short and cheerful. Be prepared though – he will most likely take you by surprise sometimes when his cleverness surpasses yours! Luckily for us all, it is difficult not to find amusement with his sly antics.

Whenever you take Manchester out, make sure he is always on a leash. He has a propensity to chase after small animals and could become hostile toward unfamiliar pups.

Grooming your Manchester is a breeze; just make sure to give him weekly brushings and keep his nails trimmed, ears cleaned, and teeth well-maintained. Of course don’t forget about baths either when he gets dirty!

The breed is specifically designed for city living, so it fits perfectly in apartments. However, if you don’t let it to have regular exercise outside its home environment, then the terrier may start exhibiting negative behaviors such as destruction – something that’s quite natural for this type of dog.
