Japanese Spitz
The Japanese Spitz finds its origins in Japan and is shrouded in an air of mystery despite the implied source. It’s widely believed that at the dawn of the 20th century, this breed was developed by merging other lineages of Spitz breeds worldwide with a desire to create a vigorous variant. With its trademark white coat, dark almond eyes, and charming personality – it can be said without doubt that mission was accomplished!
Many people theorize that the Japanese Spitz descended from the Samoyed, another charming spitz breed native to Japan. At first glance, one can easily see why this theory holds some credibility due to their close resemblance – in fact, it’s almost as if they are ‘mini-me’ twins! Some surmise that there is also a trace of White German Spitz hidden within its genes. Although we have yet to unearth its origin story for sure, all evidence points towards an amazing and delightful little pup no matter what!
Japanese Spitz dogs have luscious, snowy white coats that can give the impression of high-maintenance grooming needs. However, their coat textures usually repel most dirt and debris. Despite this, brushing them twice a week is still necessary to keep knots and matting away while also minimizing shedding clean up times. For best results in maintaining the quality of their fur’s texture, use a brush that reaches down into the undercoat when brushing your furry pal!
With coats that are naturally dry and lack moisture, Japanese Spitz should only be bathed when necessary. Excessive shampooing can eliminate their natural oils and dampness, which could lead to irritation. All in all, the grooming necessities of a Japanese Spitz is far less than many other breeds.
The Japanese Spitz is a loyal and compassionate breed, making them the perfect companion. Not only are they energetic and playful, but their gentle demeanor makes them great friends for young children too! These dogs love to be around people – they thrive on companionship and will always seek out your attention with affection. They desire nothing more than to be at the center of your family life; devotedly accompanying you in all that you do.
The friendly disposition of these dogs makes them great companions for both other canines and household pets. Although they have a ‘lap-sized’ look, they still enjoy being active outdoors by going on walks or running without a leash. That said, at the end of their playtime, you’re sure to find your amiable pet curled up on your lap taking an occasional break.
Investing in a burglar alarm is completely unnecessary, as this breed of dogs make excellent watchdogs that can easily alert you when somebody enters your home. They may be small but they have the heart and attitude of a large dog; however, if not properly socialized during their puppy stages, they tend to become overly suspicious of unfamiliar faces. Though it’s common for them to appear unfriendly at first towards visitors in your house, once the initial wariness subsides these pets will quickly charm everyone with their spirited personality!
The Japanese Spitz is an exuberant and high-spirited breed that requires occasional physical activity. It loves going outdoors on adventures, playing fetch with balls or Frisbees, and participating in agility activities. In fact, they relish the chance to run off leash when it’s safe to do so! This pup will keep you happily entertained while providing plenty of exercise for both its mind and body.
