Ibizan Hound

The Ibizan Hound hails from the Balearic Islands in Spain and is renowned for his regal bearing with tall ears and pink nose. He was originally bred to hunt rabbits but has many more skills; not least of all being a funny companion who loves affection! If you are looking for an exotic pet that will bring love and laughter into your life, then perhaps it’s time to consider the remarkable Ibizan Hound! Once believed to be an ancient breed adored by Egyptian Pharaohs, DNA evidence shows they’re actually a more recent breed.

Subtly observant, vivacious and affectionate, he is an independent thinker who continually searches for morsels of food to steal, when there’s a pursuit of prey in sight – you can guarantee that he’ll be on the chase. To ensure his containment, it’s essential to raise your fence line by one more foot – as anything less won’t suffice. Don’t even bother investing in electronic underground fences either; trust us when we say that they will be no match against him!

With his remarkable athleticism and energy, the Ibizan Hound will excel in activities such as agility courses, lure coursing, obedience training, rally classes and tracking. Moreover, this breed requires roughly 20 to 30 minutes of daily exercise on a leash plus playtime off-leash in a securely fenced area. When he has satisfied these needs for physical activity he will be content to lounge around your home – preferably basking in sunshine – but alerting you if any visitors appear at your door! It’s also common for him to bark while racing across an open field or grassy knoll; simply due to the sheer joy of running free!

Meeting unfamiliar faces, the Ibizan Hound can be stand-offish and timid in case it hasn’t been sufficiently introduced to new people early on. This breed is suitable for families with mature kids, though its active nature could make it unsuitable for young toddlers.

The Ibizan Hound boasts two unique coat types: smooth and wire. Keeping the breed’s fur in check requires just a weekly brushing to clear away any dead hairs, while baths are needed only when your pup gets too muddy. Additionally, remember to trim their nails, brush their teeth and clean their ears regularly for optimal health!

The Ibizan Hound loves training as long as the session is enjoyable. Utilize positive reinforcement methods such as appreciation, treats, and playtime to make it more fun! Make sure to take short breaks often since they don’t like doing the same tasks over and over again- especially when they already know what’s being asked of them. Like most canines, Ibizan Hounds will become restless or destructive if left alone with no other dogs for company and without human companionship.

Sighthounds, including the Ibizan Hound, possess an innate desire to chase all sorts of moving creatures. That being said, if raised from a young age alongside cats or small dogs he can usually coexist peacefully with them indoors. However, it is still important to monitor their interactions and keep them apart when you are not present. If let outside without supervision, there is a chance that your dog’s instinctive urge may overpower his domestication–so avoid outdoor scenarios altogether!

Boasting a sleek and streamlined body, the Ibizan Hound is not suited to cold weather conditions – in fact, he prefers living indoors with his people and access to soft furniture or bedding! After all, what’s better than snuggling up with your loved ones?
