Finnish Lapphund
For centuries, the semi-nomadic Sami people have relied on the Finnish Lapphund to help them herd their reindeer. The Lappie, as he’s affectionately nicknamed, is an active and vocal medium-sized Spitz breed of dog. His agility and alertness are a result of his ancestral background. He makes the perfect watchdog but not guard dog; being calm, friendly, and submissive with people while having tendencies towards aloofness.
The Lappie, a popular dog in Finland, is now gaining recognition in North America, as a furry pup with remarkable features. Its double coat of any coloration combined with its distinctive prick ears, wedge-shaped head and tail that arcs over its back as it escorts you around make the breed an ideal companion for anyone looking to bring companionship into their lives.
This energetic pup needs a great deal of exercise and sheds heavily, rendering it an unsuitable choice for those living in apartments. Despite having to be with humans most of the day, this breed is one that Finnish owners are legally allowed to keep outside during cold weather due its extraordinary ability to adjust. Make sure you provide a securely fenced garden as well so your pet can stay outdoors every now and then – however beware – since they are known barkers if left unattended too long! Expect persistent ‘yappy’ noises soon after!
The Finnish Lapphund is the perfect companion for any family. He displays intelligence, friendliness and alertness which makes him an ideal watchdog. His active nature requires mental stimulation as well as physical exercise to prevent behavioral issues like destruction of property or excessive noisemaking in a bid to entertain himself.
The Finnish Lapphund is often referred to as a “soft” breed due to its receptiveness towards instruction and correction. Not only are they relatively simple to train but their enthusiasm for pleasing owners makes them perfect candidates for activities such as obedience or agility training – requiring physical fitness and dedication. With all these amazing traits in one pet package, you can rest assured that your furry friend will be an excellent competitor no matter what type of sport it chooses!
The Finnish Lapphund is a hardy breed, and its average life expectancy ranges from 12 to 14 years. If you are not keen on pet hair scattered around your house, this may not be the right dog for you; notwithstanding that he’s easy to groom, these pups usually shed heavily all year round.
