Cardigan Welsh Corgi

Cardigan Welsh Corgis are a breeders’ triumph; their make-up is designed to efficiently herd cattle, and yet they still possess an incredibly endearing and gentle face. They have long bodies, short legs with strong bones, as well as broad chests that provide them the power to work swiftly but gracefully. Females typically weigh from 25–34 pounds while males can be slightly heavier than this range. The Cardigans truly demonstrate how one animal can combine strength with admirable sweetness!

Cardigan Welsh Corgis come in various coat colors from bright red to the iconic blue-merle pattern, making them distinct from their similarly shaped cousins, Pembroke Welsh Corgis. In order to tell Cardigans apart, one should look at the hindquarters; if there is a tail present then it’s definitely a Cardi! They are highly intelligent and trainable pets that make incredible companions due to their loyalty and protection instincts.

Not only do they have an extensive bark like many larger dogs, but they also display great affection towards children as well as other animals when socialized properly. These athletic herders love being outdoors which helps keep both mental stimulation and physical activity levels high – two essential components for any good pup!

Affectionately named the “yard-long dog” in its homeland of Wales, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi is energetic and cheerful – always looking for something to do. Though they can make great watchdogs if trained properly, these little pups may tend towards being noisy barkers without some discipline. The distinct trait that sets them apart from their cousin, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi? A tail! But there are also numerous other features that distinguish this Cardi from the Pembroke.

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is larger than the Pembroke and has more round ears, as well as a vast assortment of colors from tricolor (black and white with tan or brindle points), blue merle, brindle, sable to red. Not only that but it also boasts some attractive marking on its neck, chest feet tail tip too!

The Cardigan and Pembroke Welsh Corgis may have originated in Wales, but their ancestries differ. The Cardi comes from a line of long-bodied dogs such as the Dachshund, with whom it shares ancestors. Many years ago, this breed was used to herd cattle by nipping at their heels – today however he is mainly known for being an affectionate companion and contestant in show events thanks to his strong herding instincts still intact!

The Cardigan is an affectionate and playful pup, so be prepared to keep him entertained. This athletic pooch excels in many activities such as agility courses, herding, flyball tournaments, obedience exercises, rally challenges, and tracking events. Plus he loves going for lengthy hikes or walks! As a natural watchdog with a strong herding background his bark will alert you of critters or strangers who come too close to his domain.
