Braque du Bourbonnais
The historical roots of the Braque du Bourbonnais lie in the heart of French territory in the region of Bourbonnais, thus the namesake. Though recognized for their adept tracking and retrieving capabilities, this breed is also commonly known as a “French Pointer”. It’s important to underscore that these canines are exceptionally talented when it comes to both scenting and recuperation!
Long rumored to be around for over 500 years, the earliest historical evidence of this breed dates as far back as 1598. This particular hound was said to have been a trusted hunting companion and it is believed they were created by interbreeding various Braque Francais with other local canines used in tracking animals.
Despite their traditional use for hunting in France, Braque du Bourbonnais dogs have the potential to become wonderful companion animals with proper exercise and socialization. With consistent training from owners, these sociable pups will blossom into calm and obedient pets who desire nothing more than spending quality time with their families. If you can fulfil the breed’s daily exercise requirements, you’ll discover that ownership is an immensely rewarding experience!
Braque du Bourbonnais dogs feature beautiful coats in a range of colors including brown, white, fawn and spotted. They may sport a single hue or have an eye-catching combination with spots scattered across the body.
These four-legged friends boast short, dense fur that is finer on most parts than at their back which has slightly longer strands of coarser hair. With this type of coat they are not hypoallergenic but require minimal grooming for upkeep – just a brush once per week! Plus there’s hardly any shedding so you can enjoy these furry companions without worrying about messes everywhere!
The Braque du Bourbonnais breed is gentle and amicable, but it should be noted that they were initially bred to work. Recently, however, more of these canines have been chosen as household pets – a testament to their capacity for adaptation and confirmation of how reliable they make as beloved companions.
The Braque du Bourbonnais loves to be around other dogs, and when introduced in a managed and conscious way will thrive with them. Unlike many breeds however, they may have the instinct to hunt smaller animals such as cats, birds or rodents so must always be supervised while in their presence. Socialization is key for these playful canines so that any potential dog aggression issues are avoided altogether.
The Braque du Bourbonnais is an exceptionally intelligent and responsive dog, always striving to fulfill its master’s desires. This obedient breed rarely challenges authority as it yearns for a leader – making them the ideal hunting partner! Their innate nature allows owners to teach their pup with minimal effort and rely on instinctive behavior when in pursuit of game.
