Bolognese

The Bolognese, also be called the Bichon Bolognese, is one of the many beloved small white canines that have existed in Mediterranean countries for centuries. A relative of other well-known small breeds – such as the Bichon Frise, Coton de Tulear, Maltese and Havanese – the Bolognese originated from Italy’s ducal courts with his name deriving from the city of ‘Bologna’.

Despite a reputation for a serious demeanor, the Bolognese is actually an affectionate and social pup that loves to play. The Bolognese makes a great family companion but may not be the most suitable pet if you have very young children. As these dogs are fragile, rough play could lead to injury or they might snap at kids when frightened. Nevertheless, with appropriate supervision of their interaction and gentle treatment from the youngsters, your little ones will soon welcome this furry friend into their hearts!

The Bolognese is a remarkably intelligent breed of dog that is constantly determined to please. With their small stature and moderate exercise needs, they make perfect indoor pets as long as regular exercise is provided. The fact that this breed has an average lifespan of 12-15 years attests to their robust health and low risk for inherited medical conditions.

Bearing a striking resemblance to his relative, the Bichon Frise, the Bolognese is an adorable little white canine with long, billowing curls that look like they were plucked from a fairytale. A bit timid when meeting new faces and loyal only to one owner at a time; these pooches are happiest cuddled in their master’s lap. The round dark eyes of this fluffy-haired creature capture your heart immediately with its soft yet expressive glimmer!

Beneath that mass of bouncy curls, the Bolognese is a sturdy companion who loves to have fun. While he doesn’t need lengthy hikes daily, if you wish for him to join then he will be there with you and ready to go; or just as content lounging on your couch with no complaints! He’s inquisitive, funny, devoted and smart – an ideal breed for any household.

If you easily cave to adorable eyes, you’ll need a few pointers on proper discipline. He may be small and fluffy but that doesn’t mean he should have free reign over everything! You can show him all the love in the world while still establishing boundaries. Begin enforcing rules from day one with gentle yet consistent corrections for any nipping, snapping or unnecessary barking. Doing so will help ensure that your pet remains an adored prince without becoming an unruly tyrant.

Taking care of their curly coats is a must with these spirited small dogs; daily brushing and occasional professional grooming are essential. If the coat becomes matted, not only can it be extremely uncomfortable for your pup but also potentially lead to severe skin infections that could spread further if left untreated.
