Beagle

Beagles are small, but sturdy hounds that were originally bred for hunting rabbits and hares. They get their name from the sound they make when hunting called “bay barking” which is a distinct and melodic bark, similar to that of a hound. Today they are popular as pets due to their good nature, and they are known for being tolerant of children. They have been bred to be very sociable dogs that get along well with other dogs, but this can sometimes mean that they suffer from separation anxiety.

Beagles are dogs that rely mostly on their sense of smell. They’re the perfect size to carry around in your car, easy to groom, and don’t need too much exercise; a long walk where they can stop and smell everything is enough. With a small frame, simple coat and pleasant attitude, Beagles have been one of the most sought-after breeds for families for many years.

If you’re thinking of adding a Beagle to your home, here are a few things to keep in mind. Most importantly, Beagles follow their noses wherever they go—even if it means darting into busy streets or running miles from home. In fact, they’re often described as “a nose with four legs.” So, if you want to keep your pup safe, he’ll need his own fenced-in yard.

A fun fact about Beagles is that they love food! This can be good and bad- on the plus side, their treat motivated behavior makes them easy to train. However, experienced owners know to keep anything that might look or smell edible well out of reach, as Beagles are creative when it comes to finding food.

While all Beagles share similar characteristics, they come in two sizes: 13-inch and 15-inch. Some smaller Beagles don’t grow taller than 13 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 22 to 30 pounds. The larger variety of Beagle is bigger than 13 inches but not more than 15 inches tall and can weigh up to 35 pounds.

The Beagle’s coat is short and consists of colors like black, white, and tan. They’re small to medium sized- but don’t let their size fool you. The Beagle thinks he’s a full-sized hound despite being miniature in comparison! This is clear by the way he bays loudly just like any other full-sized hound.

Given that Beagles are pack animals who love their human companions, they do well in many types of families. They’re an especially good choice for those with kids. If you enjoy being outdoors and staying active, this breed is a perfect match – Oftentimes described as even-tempered, Beagles make excellent walking partners for seniors who prefer to take things slow and smell the roses (or everything else) along the way.

If you give them enough exercise and let their noses do some work, these versatile companions can thrive in any living situation, from a small city apartment to an expansive ranch. They’re not built for life outdoors or cooped up in a dog house–they need to live indoors as part of the family.
