Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog

The Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog is one of many breeds that bear a resemblance to early Bulldogs of England. His task as a “catch dog” is to catch, hold and drive unruly hogs and cattle, but nowadays he enjoys the company of families more so than herding animals. He’s large in size, weighing 60 to 95 pounds on average, has a square head with short trimmed fur in white or other colors like brindle– sometimes accented by white patches.

The Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog is not recommended for novice dog owners. He can be a great companion, but he is also large, strong, intelligent, active and protective. An experienced leader who uses consistent firmness without force or cruelty will get the best out of this breed.

It is crucial to socialize your Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog early and frequently. Find a breeder that raises the pups around many different household noises and objects, as well as people. Also, continue taking him out after you purchase him so he can learn what is normal and safe. Socializing throughout his life will significanly help your dog’s development.

Start training your Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog puppy immediately, while he is still small enough to manage. Even though he is intelligent and able to be trained, he can also be stubborn. A program that requires puppies to “work” for everything they want in life–such as food, toys or playtime–by performing a command first, often works well with this breed. You can also use positive reinforcement techniques during training, such as rewarding him with praise or treats when he does something correctly.

Alapahas are moderately active, so they need a daily task, like being your leashed running buddy or participating in training activities. Most Alapahas require at least one mile of walking or jogging each day, plus 20 minutes of training drills.

The Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog has a high prey drive and is naturally territorial, so he should always be kept on leash while walking and needs a strong, solid fence that is at least six feet tall to keep him contained on his own property. An underground electronic fence would never suffice for this breed.

Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog puppies, like any other dog breed, are notorious chewers and their large size causes them to be able to do a lot more damage than most breeds. Because of this, it is not advisable to let them have free run of the house until they have reached a trustworthy maturity level. To keep your Alapaha puppy from getting bored and causing destruction in your home through activities such as chewing or digging, keep them busy with training exercises, playtime experiences, and socialization opportunities.

The Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog is a family dog that should spend plenty of time both indoors and outdoors. Chaining him up in the yard without any attention is not only cruel, but can cause aggression and destructive behavior.
